Sandustry Flower Farm: Grow Flowers & Automate Harvests

Grow and automate Sandustry Flowers with Wet Seeds, Planter Boxes, controlled fire, and separate Gold and Amethelis outputs—plus fixes for regrowth.

To build a Sandustry flower farm, turn Seeds into Wet Seeds with Water, move them onto Planter Boxes, let each Flower finish growing, then destroy the mature heads with Fire. A mature Flower yields four Amethelis and one Gold. The reliable layout keeps seed wetting, planting, burning, and output clearing in separate stages so one backed-up pile cannot stop the whole farm.

3Mature FlowerDestroy the head with Fire or a weapon4 Amethelis and 1 Gold
4Mixed harvestClear and sort the outputGold storage and Amethelis processing

Each Wet Seed produces one Flower. Current Early Access footage also shows that a completed Flower can be harvested immediately; waiting longer does not increase its yield. The important delay is therefore waiting for the head to form, not leaving a mature crop standing.

If this farm is attached to the main Gold chain, Kinetic Presses can supply the Seeds. Keep that seed branch separate from the Press’s Gold output before it reaches the water chamber.

Sandustry Flower Setup: What You Need

ComponentPurposeStart with
Planter BoxAccepts Wet Seeds and starts Flower growthA short row that you can observe easily
Water pocketConverts incoming Seeds into Wet SeedsA small, fully enclosed chamber
Conveyor or LauncherMoves Seeds toward the water chamber and grow areaOne controlled input lane
Clearing FramePushes floating Wet Seeds through a static chamberAdd when Wet Seeds collect instead of exiting
Fire sourceDestroys mature FlowersFlamethrower first; Pyro Dispenser for automation
Filter and output beltSeparates Gold from the larger Amethelis streamGive each product its own exit
Aerokinetic Fan or free fallClears light Amethelis petalsAdd if petals cover the growing area

You can prove the basic cycle with Water, one Planter Box, and a manual Flamethrower. Pumps, Pipes, a Liquid Vent, Clearing Frames, and a Pyro Dispenser make the same cycle continuous; they are not required for the first test.

Current Early Access footage places the Planter Box in the Refining 3 research tier with a 2,000 Gold unlock cost. Because Sandustry is in Early Access, confirm the displayed cost in your current technology tree before planning a large farm around it.

How Do You Make Wet Seeds in Sandustry?

Make a Wet Seed by letting a dry Seed touch one pixel of Water. The Seed absorbs that Water pixel and becomes a Wet Seed. Use a small, sealed water chamber so incoming Seeds cannot spread through the main reservoir or consume more of the farm’s supply than intended.

Wet Seeds float, so give the chamber a controlled exit instead of expecting them to sink onto the planting lane. Shape the chamber to guide them outward, use Clearing Frames to push them through a static pool, or use a Launcher after they leave the water. Deliver each Wet Seed onto a Planter Box with enough open space for the Flower to grow.

Automated Flower Farm Layout

Build the farm from the output backward. Reserve a clear collection area first, place the Planter Boxes above or beside it, aim the fire source across the mature crop, and only then connect Wet Seed delivery.

  1. Separate the Seed line. Divert Seeds before they mix with stored Gold or other Press outputs. Add a shutoff point so you can stop the farm without dismantling its water and harvest sections.
  2. Build a sealed water chamber. Feed Water through a Pump, Pipes, and a Liquid Vent, or fill a small pocket manually. Route dry Seeds into this chamber rather than pouring Water over the Planter Boxes.
  3. Move Wet Seeds out of the chamber. Wet Seeds float in current gameplay. Use the chamber shape, Clearing Frames, or a Launcher to guide them toward the planting lane instead of letting them gather at the surface.
  4. Place a short Planter Box row. Deliver Wet Seeds onto the boxes with open space for the plants to extend. Test one or two Seeds before increasing the input.
  5. Aim fire across the crop. A Pyro Dispenser provides intermittent automated ignition when supplied for operation. A manual Flamethrower works while commissioning the farm. A nearby contained Lava system can also support automated burning, but isolate it from Water and loose factory material.
  6. Split the harvest immediately. Move Gold toward research storage and give Amethelis a separate belt, drop, Fan route, or processing buffer. Do not let either product settle on the Planter Boxes.

Current Early Access build example showing the wetting, lifting, planting, and harvest modules connected in one factory. Gameplay frame from InterndotGif, “Growing Endless Flowers for Gold,” at 31:53; cropped for explanation. The surrounding terrain is not required for the layout.

The example is useful as a flow reference rather than a tile-perfect blueprint. From left to right, it demonstrates a Flower area with automatic clearing, a contained Wet Seed section, vertical transport, and the main factory network. Rebuild those modules around the space available in your own map.

Batch Farm or Continuous Farm?

A batch farm is safer to commission. Feed a small amount of Wet Seed, close the input, let every plant mature, burn the finished heads, and clear both outputs before starting again. This makes hidden Seed buildup easy to detect.

A continuous farm adds Clearing Frames or another controlled transport method plus intermittent fire and reliable output removal. It can run without manually reopening the input, but only after the Wet Seed chamber and harvest exits have been tested separately. If either output backs up, return to batch operation until the obstruction is fixed.

How to Stop Flowers From Spreading

Enclose the growing chamber with solid blocks before opening the Wet Seed input. Community-tested layouts also use Lights as compact boundaries. Filters are useful for harvested materials but are less dependable as the wall around active plant growth.

If Flowers seem to regrow forever, stop all new Seed input first. A visually small growing point may represent a much larger accumulated Seed supply. Let the existing plants form heads, destroy the mature Flowers, clear the products, and repeat until no new growth starts. Burning only unfinished stems can interrupt growth without completing a useful harvest.

What to Do With Amethelis

Flower farms produce much more Amethelis than Gold by count, so plan its destination before scaling. Amethelis combines with Redsand at a one-to-one ratio to produce two Voidbloom. It also begins the Energy route: Steam creates Dry Amethelis, heat converts it into Florin gas, and cooling condenses Florin into Florinol.

Use the Amethelis processing guide when the Flower output is stable. A large petal pile beside the farm is a logistics warning, not evidence that more Planter Boxes are needed.

Flower Farm FAQ

How do you grow Flowers in Sandustry?

Touch Seeds with Water to create Wet Seeds, then deliver those Wet Seeds onto Planter Boxes. Leave enough open space for the plant to finish forming its Flower head.

How much Gold does one Flower produce?

One mature Flower head contains one Gold and four Amethelis. Destroy the completed head with a weapon or Fire to release them.

Can a Sandustry Flower farm be fully automated?

Yes. Automate Seed wetting with a contained Water chamber, move Wet Seeds with Clearing Frames and Launchers, grow them on Planter Boxes, harvest with a Pyro Dispenser or controlled fire, and clear Gold and Amethelis through separate outputs.

Why do my Flowers keep growing back?

The usual cause is accumulated Seeds or burning the plant before its head matures. Stop feeding Seeds, let the current batch complete, harvest every mature head, and repeat until the hidden supply is gone.
